Policy Statement

The Nuwara Eliya Regional Council established for 27 rural service domains in the Nuwara Eliya Divisional Secretariat is responsible for maintaining public health services, maintaining public utility services, streamlining all activities on public roads, maintaining the facilities and comfort of the public, maintaining welfare activities, protecting the natural beauty of the area and The work and tasks assigned to this council is to control and administer the wealth.

Therefore, the purpose of the council is to perform the constitutionally assigned duties and responsibilities legally and more effectively.

History

The Development Council Act No. 35 of 1980 established the Anuwa District Development Council system. Due to the development council system that was in place since 1981, the then existing SUE Municipal Councils and Village Councils were abolished. The powers and functions, assets and liabilities of those institutions were also assigned to the Development Councils. Those nine village councils and Sue Municipal Council offices located in the region became the auxiliary offices of the Development Council. It was controlled under the district secretary of Kotagala, Kadapola and Nanuoy. Then 258 Regional Councils were established under the Regional Council Act No. 15 of 1987. Nuwara Eliya Regional Council was also included among them.

Council Secretary's message

The Nuwara Eliya local council area is an area with a beautiful ecosystem and climate that attracts foreigners in Sri Lanka, and the people, tourists and service providers of the area can be efficiently and easily administered their utilities and services, public health, public roads, in a short period of time. I consider it my privilege to contribute to the supreme task of bringing the welfare of the common people of the jurisdiction closer to the people.

In a multi-racial, multi-religious, multi-cultural jurisdiction, my aim is to carry out a great mission for the people by respecting each other according to religion, language, culture, ethnicity and promoting harmony and creating an intelligent people and a fertile jurisdiction.
